The RPO has issued a passport for Iltija, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Iltija has raised a question regarding the duration and type of passport.
Iltija Mufti, daughter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has been issued a limited duration and ‘country specific passport’. Iltija has been issued a passport for a period of two years to pursue higher education in the UAE.
There was a dispute regarding Iltija’s passport. The matter reached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The High Court had directed the Regional Passport Office (RPO) to look into the matter on merit.
Finally, the RPO, rejecting the verification report of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, issued a special passport for two years to Iltija.
For how long will Iltija’s new passport be valid?
According to news agency PTI, an official said that the passport is valid only for the UAE. For this there is a stamp in the passport. Officials said that according to a letter written by the RPO to the Additional Solicitor General, Iltija wants to go for higher studies, she has been issued a passport valid from April 5, 2023 to April 4, 2025.
Iltija raised question regarding the duration of passport
Iltija has also reacted regarding the passport. He has raised questions about its duration and type. Iltija said, “Why is this passport valid only for two years and that too for a particular country?” Iltija said, “They have not done any favor. I am thankful to the honorable court, but the passport has been treated as a weapon.” A big question remains about the blatant abuse and misuse of power by the CID.” He said that the verification report of the CID is full of lies.
Significantly, Iltija’s passport expired on January 2 this year. She had applied for a new passport on June 8 last year. When the application was not approved, he had moved the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in February this year.
CID’s stand regarding Iltija’s passport
Citing the RPO’s letter, the officials said the verification report received from Jammu and Kashmir’s Special Director General of Police (CID) in February is not in favor of issuing a passport to Iltija. Officials said Srinagar’s passport officer Davinder Kumar has sought a detailed report from the CID on whether there is any charge sheet or FIR against Iltija. However, the CID has refused to share its report and reiterated its stand of February.
