A road safety awareness program has began at the Srinagar city’s centre Lal chowk today.
This program commenced with an interactive session of ARTO Srinagar with the local driver community. This program is conducted for the sake of drivers, in order to make them aware about the safety measures they need to take and to ensure the safe conduct of their job, Assistant Regional Transport Officer said.
Farzana Asghar, ARTO Srinagar, during her talk said: ” We used to conduct a week of road safety awareness before, but now the government has decided to conduct a whole month of road safety awareness .”
“Common people as well as the stakeholders will be made aware about the safety rules they need to consider while driving or boarding a vehicle,” she said.
“The transport department is taking this action in regard to the safety of people. We will be interacting with the drivers. Drivers’ proper health checkup will be done. They will be made aware about fitness and a proper track will be kept by the authorities,” said another official.
Drivers are being made aware about the road safety measures and how they can contribute to it.
The awareness program will cover the issues such as overloading, over-speeding,not using seat belts and others.
It is very crucial to make people aware about these safety acts, so as to limit the misconduct and the number of accidents happening, Farzana commented.
