Rain and Snowfall Forecast Brings Hope to Jammu and Kashmir Amid Fog Disruptions
Jammu and Kashmir anticipate relief from an extended dry spell with the forecast predicting rain and snowfall in scattered to widespread areas over the next few days. The Kashmir and Jammu regions experienced a slight rise in temperature today.
However, disruptions persist as fog continues to engulf the region, affecting transportation. In Jammu, five trains and three flights were cancelled, while five trains and five flights faced delays due to poor visibility.
The road traffic has also been hampered for the past few weeks, posing challenges.
Jammu Airport officials reported three Indigo flights being cancelled today, and five other flights (four Indigo and two Spice Jet) experienced delays during the morning hours due to foggy conditions.
Northern Railways confirmed the cancellation of five trains and delays for others, attributing the disruptions to foggy weather conditions. The impact rippled through trains like Jhelum Express, Kota Express, Tirunveli Exp, and Durg Express.
The Meteorological Department recorded a slight increase in night temperatures and issued a weather advisory for January 28-31, anticipating isolated to scattered light rain and snow over the hills of Kashmir.
The MeT office forecasts light rain and snow for the next two days, with a possibility of scattered precipitation on February 1.
Meanwhile, Srinagar, Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, Kupwara, and Gulmarg experienced varying temperatures, while Jammu recorded a minimum of 4.1°C and a maximum of 12.6°C. The Katra Mata Vaishnodevi, Bhaderwah, Batote, and Banihal also saw temperature variations, showcasing some improvement in the overall weather conditions.
