Italian trekker body in Ladakh: The body of an Italian trekker who went missing last month while on a trekking excursion along the Hankar-Zangla route in Ladakh has been recovered by police, the UTDRF, and the Indian Army.
The body of an Italian national was evacuated from Charchar la pass on the Leh-Zangla track by Kargil Police, UTDRF, and Forever in Operations section. “The body was handed over to nominated guardians after legal documentation,” Kargil police said on X
Anayat Ali Chowdhury, Senior Superintendent of Police in Kargil, stated that a coordinated rescue operation was begun to recover the body of an Italian trekker near Charchar La. The body was recovered after arduous attempts by the joint rescue teams.
Davide Macella, an Italian national, set out on a walking adventure along the Hankar-Zangla path last month but has not been seen since July 22, 2023, with his last sighting supposedly documented near Hankar by a local. Police registered a missing report based on the lady’s allegation, and operations were initiated to find the missing Italian national.
