In order to rehabilitate Forest dwellers of the district by making access to other alternative livelihood opportunities in place of illegal exploitation of forests, Forest Department Shopian in collaboration with NRLM today here at Mini Secretariat launched a rehabilitation Programme for better improvement of people living in forest villages.
On the occasion, while interacting with people living in the forest areas, Deputy Commissioner Shopian Sachin Kumar Vashiya stressed upon the people to refrain from exploitation of forests, while insisting upon them to avail benefits of numerous economic, entrepreneurship and welfare schemes for their better and decent Livelihood.
He warned them against the timber Smuggling and cautioned that any one found involved, will not be spared and stern action under law shall be taken against the culprits.
On this occasion, DC along with concerned officers of forest and NRLM distributed Horticulture Tool Kits, Sewing Machines among them and assured administration’s commitment to support them in taking up alternative livelihood ventures.
The Joint Director Planning Khursheed Ahmed Khatana, DFO, Shopian, Mohammad Ayoub Sheikh, District Programme Manager, NRLM and other concerned officers were present.
