Following the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the much-anticipated Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP’s UT president Ravinder Raina and Kashmir in-charge Sunil Sharma were summoned to Delhi to discuss election strategy with top leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and election in-charge G Kishan Reddy. The meeting, which also involved BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh and co-incharge Ashish Sood, focused on campaign strategies and potential candidates, with an emphasis on introducing fresh faces.
The BJP is set to hold a marathon meeting at its Trikuta Nagar headquarters, which will involve key leaders like G Kishan Reddy, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Tarun Chugh, and others. The party will gather input from senior leaders, ex-legislators, and district representatives on candidate selection and campaign plans. The first phase of the elections is scheduled for September 18, and the candidate list for this phase is expected to be released shortly after the meeting.
The BJP’s campaign will emphasize development, peace, prosperity, and the promise of a “double engine Sarkar” to transform J&K into a tourist and industrial hub. Meanwhile, the party has launched a nationwide membership drive, excluding J&K and Haryana, as part of its broader organizational efforts.
In a related development, J&K Apni Party vice president and former minister Choudhary Zulfkar Ali met with Amit Shah, sparking speculation about his potential defection to the BJP. BJP UT president Ravinder Raina confirmed the party’s readiness for a vigorous campaign and hinted at more leaders from various parties joining BJP soon. A separate meeting in Srinagar, chaired by BJP general secretary Ashok Koul, focused on forming election-related committees and manifesto planning.
