Rani Mukerji has acknowledged her inclination toward greater privacy compared to her husband, director-producer Aditya Chopra. In a recent conversation with Film Companion, she not only delved into their relationship’s progression over time but also disclosed the secret behind sustaining the vitality in their marriage. Rani and Aditya exchanged vows in 2014 and are parents to their daughter Adira, who was born in 2015.
Rani unveiled that she and Aditya Chopra still engage in shared movie-watching experiences. She remarked, “The most delightful moments that Adi (Aditya Chopra) and I share are when we go watch a film together. This tradition has persisted, taking place every Friday at the YRF (Yash Raj Films) studio in Mumbai. When we are abroad, we carry on this tradition as well. It’s a wonderful feeling to hold hands and partake in this activity. It’s quite charming… The whole process, from queuing up to buy tickets, to grabbing popcorn, and nowadays you even get pizza, which is fantastic. So the culinary options are quite appealing. It’s lovely to enjoy a meal, watch a movie. The experience is quite extraordinary.”
Rani went on to explain how she consistently astonishes Aditya every day, and she shared insights into the foundation of their relationship built on mutual respect. She also alluded to her upcoming memoir, which might feature anecdotes from their married life. Fondly recalling their wedding, Rani humorously mentioned being the “first quintessential Sabyasachi bride” and teased the possibility of releasing their wedding photographs soon.
Elaborating on her strategy to sustain an intriguing marriage with Aditya, Rani shared in the same interview, “The beauty of relationships lies in surprising your partner each day, and I manage to surprise Adi every single day. It’s like he encounters a new version of me every day. He’s probably thinking, ‘I have no idea what’s in store today.’ It keeps things interesting for him. He’s really in a helpless state, and he’s quite simple. But simplicity can be mundane, so I prefer to keep him… He’s always pondering, ‘What’s in store for today?’ He tells me, ‘For me, it’s akin to switching to a new channel every day. One day it’s comedy, the next it’s drama. Sometimes it’s action.’ And of course, there’s romance too. Each day is akin to a different movie, and it’s quite delightful.”
Rani’s Most Recent Film: Rani’s most recent appearance was in Ashima Chibber’s “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.” This film, also featuring Anirban Bhattacharya, Neena Gupta, and Jim Sarbh, revolves around the true story of an Indian couple whose children were forcibly taken by Norwegian authorities in 2011. The movie hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
