On March 23, the Surat court held Rahul Gandhi guilty in the defamation case related to the Modi surname. The very next day i.e. on March 24, Rahul’s Lok Sabha membership was also cancelled.
Now on Monday, Rahul Gandhi is going to file a petition against this decision in the Sessions Court of Surat. He has left for Surat from his Delhi residence.
Along with Rahul Gandhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu are also going to Surat.

Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail in this case. Rahul was given 30 days to appeal against the decision. If the verdict on Rahul Gandhi is upheld by the higher court, then he will not be able to contest elections for the next eight years.
In the year 2019, Rahul Gandhi had commented on the Modi surname in Kolar, Karnataka. After this, BJP MLA Purnesh Modi had filed a case regarding this. On which the decision was given on March 23 and Rahul Gandhi was declared guilty.
According to a rule of Parliament, if an MP is found guilty in any case, then his membership is cancelled. As soon as the court found Rahul Gandhi guilty in this case, action was taken against him under this rule within 24 hours.
A few days later, Rahul Gandhi was ordered to vacate his official residence at 12, Tughlaq Road.
The Congress alleges that this action taken on Rahul Gandhi is politically motivated as he was constantly asking questions in Parliament about the relationship between businessman Gautam Adani and the Prime Minister.
RS Cheema will be Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer in this case.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote on a Twitter, “Rahul Gandhi is going to Surat to file an appeal against the court’s decision.
There is no need for any convict to go to the court to file an appeal. Usually no convict goes to the court and files an appeal.
His going like this with a group of leaders is just a drama. What Rahul Gandhi is doing is a childish attempt to put pressure on the court. Such tactics have no effect on every court of the country.
Rahul Gandhi might be going to Surat to file an Appeal. It is not required of a convict to go personally to file an Appeal. Generally, no convict goes personally. His going personally with a motley group of leaders and aides accompanying him is only a drama. (1/2)
