Rahul Gandhi residence redistribution: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, has had his residence at 12 Tughlaq Lane in Delhi redistributed after his parliamentary membership was reinstated, officials said on Tuesday. After being stripped of his MP status in April of this year, he left the home.
However, the bungalow has been assigned to him once more, according to sources, now that the Supreme Court has overturned a stay on his conviction in the criminal defamation case involving the ‘Modi’ surname.
In 2004, after winning the Amethi constituency in the general elections, Rahul was first given the bungalow. Rahul Gandhi was given notice by the Lok Sabha Housing Committee to leave his residence at 12 Tughlaq Lane by April 22.
He requested a sessions court to overturn the magistrate’s decision, but his request was denied. His two-year defamation prison sentence was postponed by the Supreme Court, allowing him to seek for re-election as an MP and in the general election of the following year.
When asked for a reaction on getting back to his official residence as an MP, Rahul told the news agency, “Mera ghar poora Hindustan hai (Whole of India is my home)”.
Rahul penned a letter in April to Mohit Rajan, the deputy secretary of the Lok Sabha secretariat, saying, “Thank you for your letter of March 27, 2023 regarding the cancellation of my accommodation at 12, Tughlaq Lane.” Rahul Gandhi wrote in the letter that he owes the “happy memories of my time spent here” to the people’s will. He said, “I will, of course, abide by the details included in your letter, without prejudice to my rights.
