President and PM expresses grief: On Saturday, an Army truck carrying personnel had an accident in the Kyari area of the Leh district of Ladakh, resulting in at least nine deaths and one badly injured.
According to P D Nitya, the superintendent of police in Leh, nine Army troops were killed in the accident and one suffered critical injuries.
She claimed that the mishap took place on the outskirts of Leh town, some 7 km from the Kyari region.
The injured were sent to local medical facilities shortly after the accident, according to Nitya.The rescue effort, according to her, was still ongoing.
An official gave information, stating that an Army truck headed towards Nyoma from Leh went off the road and plunged into a gorge nearby an area 7 km from Kyari, killing eight Army troops there and one Army personnel who died while being transported to a hospital. He claimed that another soldier was seriously hurt in the deadly car crash and was receiving medical care at MI Hospital in Leh.
“Deeply anguished to learn that a road accident in Leh led to loss of lives of Indian Army personnel. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May God give them strength to bear this tragedy. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The nation owes a great debt of gratitude to these soldiers for their selfless sacrifice,” president said in an X post
“Pained by the mishap near Leh in which we have lost personnel of the Indian Army. Their rich service to the nation will always be remembered,” Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on X.
In a post on X, defence minister Rajnath Singh said, “Saddened by the loss of Indian Army personnel due to an accident near Leh in Ladakh. We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The injured personnel have been rushed to the Field Hospital. Praying for their speedy recovery.”
Reacting to the news, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a X post, said: “Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Ladakh in which we lost our valiant soldiers, as their vehicle fell into a gorge. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. My sincerest condolences to them. May the injured recover at the earliest.”
