President Draupadi Murmu honored 106 people with Padma awards on Wednesday. Padma Awards have been conferred on people associated with various fields including arts, social work, business, industry, medicine, science and engineering. The President had announced the conferment of 106 Padma Awards on the eve of Republic Day. The list of 106 people includes 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri awardees. In which seven people will get Padma Award posthumously. Out of which 3 will get Padma Vibhushan and 4 will get Padma Shri.
Of the 106 people, more than 50 were honored on Wednesday. The remaining awardees will be honored later at another function. At the same time, India’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna has not been given to anyone since 2019.
Following are the names of the posthumous award winners
Balkrishna Vitthaldas Doshi:
Balkrishna Vitthaldas Doshi was a renowned Indian architect. He is credited with designing IIM Bangalore, NIFT Delhi and CEPT University in Ahmedabad. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis:
Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis was a renowned pediatrician. He played an important role in the prevention of cholera disease. He left the world at the age of 88. He has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan. Mulayam Singh Yadav Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan. The Samajwadi Party patriarch passed away on October 10 at the age of 82.
Rakesh Jhunjhunwala:
Billionaire stock market investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala passed away last year. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri.
Narendra Chandra Debbarma:
Narendra Chandra Debbarma has been awarded the Padma Shri. He was serving as the Revenue Minister of Tripura. He breathed his last on 1 January 2023 at a hospital in Agartala at the age of 84.

On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day, 91 persons were selected for Padma Shri awards under various categories across the country, including two persons from Jammu and Kashmir.
Mohan Singh was honoured with the Padma Shri award for his valuable services in the field of literature and education, while Ghulam Muhammad Zaz, a resident of the Zaina Kadal area of Shahr-Khas, who has a unique distinction will be awarded in the field of art.
Ghulam Mohammad Zaz from Kashmir is the last artisan to make santoor in Kashmir. He has inherited this work from his family. Ghulam Muhammad Zaz is not only the eighth generation of his family but also the last artisan of the entire Kashmir who is a santoor maker.
Expressing his views on this occasion, Ghulam Muhammad Zaz expressed happiness and said that it is a happy thing to select him for this honour, but he was saddened by the fact that this honour was not given to anyone in his last eight generations.
