Ganderbal, May 30, 2025: Preparations are in full swing for the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela, one of the most sacred religious gatherings for the Kashmiri Pandit community. The mela is scheduled to take place on June 3 at the revered Kheer Bhawani temple in Tulla Mulla village, Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.

Dedicated to the goddess Ragnya Devi, the temple draws thousands of devotees every year, especially members of the Kashmiri Pandit diaspora who travel from across India to participate in the spiritual festivities. The event holds deep emotional and religious significance, symbolizing the strong cultural and spiritual roots of the community.

Officials from the Dharmarth Trust, which manages the temple, along with local authorities, are overseeing extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth experience for the influx of devotees. “We expect the usual rush this year,” said a spokesperson from the Dharmarth Trust. “All necessary facilities including security, medical aid, sanitation, and transport are being put in place.”

Local residents have also joined hands in preparing for the festival, reflecting the spirit of harmony and hospitality that characterizes the occasion. Volunteers are helping set up tents, food stalls, and accommodation for the visiting pilgrims.

The mela also holds significance as a moment of homecoming for many displaced Kashmiri Pandits, who see the pilgrimage as a reaffirmation of their identity and a connection to their homeland.

Authorities have tightened security arrangements in and around the temple premises to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
