Baba Jang, NHPC’s Salal Hydroelectric project, PHE Sopore top the list
Srinagar, Mar 13: Government agencies, industrial entities, semi-government bodies, and private organizations
The government informed the Legislative Assembly that hundreds of crores are owed to the Power Development Department for electricity dues.
In reply to a question from MLA Sheikh Khursheed, the government, according to the news agency, disclosed alarming statistics, with defaulters accumulating debts that have significantly burdened the power sector.
Baba Jang leads the list of major defaulters with an unpaid amount of Rs 63.78 crore, while Chief Engineer Salal Hydroelectric NHPC follows at Rs 56.96 crore. XEN PHE Sopore has outstanding payments totaling Rs 45.84 crore, whereas Chief Mining Engineer J&K Minerals Ltd. is indebted for Rs 42.43 crore.
Additional prominent defaulters consist of Rajpora Lift Irrigation AWP Stage 1 & 2 – Rs 39.83 crore, Ex-Engineer PHE Mechanical Division Sopore – Rs 26.87 crore, Water Supply Scheme Tangnar – Rs 24.10 crore, Manager Jammu & Kashmir Cements Ltd. – Rs 22.49 crore, Lift Irrigation Lethpora Stage 1st – Rs 21.97 crore, Ex-Engineer PHE Mechanical Division Sopore (PR 96) – Rs 21.41 crore, among others.
The Minister In-Charge of the Power Development Department (PDD) stated, as per KNO, that a total of 2,75,081 consumers have enrolled in the current amnesty scheme, comprising 1,60,507 from Jammu and 1,14,574 from Kashmir.
The Minister stated that the government has introduced an amnesty program for consumers with outstanding bills, enabling them to pay off their debts in installments while receiving relief from interest and penalties.
