A police team from PP Canal Road arrested two drug peddlers. The arrests occurred during a patrol at Nikki Tawi area, Jammu. While patrolling, the police reached near the 4th Tawi Bridge. Two pedestrians were walking from Nikki Tawi towards the bridge. On noticing the police, they turned back and tried to hide, raising suspicion.
The police stopped them for questioning. The suspects identified themselves as Sunny Mehra, son of Parshotam Mehra, resident of Ward No. 10, near Hotel Hill Top, Katra, Reasi, and Parvesh Malhotra, son of Ram Singh Malhotra, resident of House No. 834, Lane No. 07, Puran Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu.
A search revealed approximately 3 to 4 grams of heroin-like substance in yellow polythene and an electronic weighing machine in Sunny Mehra’s right pocket. Similarly, 3 to 4 grams of heroin-like substance was found in Parvesh Kumar’s right pocket.
When questioned about the heroin and weighing machine, both suspects failed to provide a reasonable explanation. Consequently, both were charged under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act for possessing heroin and an electronic weighing machine. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
