Ganderbal, Feb 17: In the last week, Ganderbal police have achieved convictions in three significant cases.

During a press conference, SSP Ganderbal, Raghav S, asserted that the police accomplished remarkable success in preventing crime and ensuring public safety, noting that they obtained convictions in three significant cases within the last week.

The SSP reported that the police achieved convictions in three cases related to serious offenses including kidnapping, rape, and NDPS.

The initial case concerns FIR 67/2016, sections 363 and 376 of the RPC at the Kangan police station, which pertains to kidnapping and rape. In this instance, the offender received a sentence of 14 years in prison, comprising 7 years for the offense under 363 and 7 years for 376, along with fines of Rs 10,000 and 25,000 respectively,” stated the SSP.

He mentioned that the sentences will be served concurrently. In the second instance, FIR number 136/2019, filed at the Ganderbal police station under POSCO for kidnapping and rape, the offender received “a rigorous sentence of 20 years and an additional 7 years for kidnapping, with the sentences to run consecutively, resulting in a total of 27 years of imprisonment.” SSP stated that in the third instance, the conviction was achieved in four months, resulting in the accused receiving a 6-month prison sentence.

The SSP stated that in all cases during the trials, charges were established against the accused. “Once the court discovered adequate records and was content with the prosecution, the Court issued its verdict.”

The SSP praised the police units, including the investigation and prosecution teams, for their professional behavior.
