A group of nine senior leaders from the Haryana Congress, including Deepender Hooda, a Congress MP, and Udai Bhan, the party’s state unit chief, were halted by the police near Rewasan village on Tuesday. The police invoked Section 144 CrPC and cited security concerns due to the ongoing violence in Nuh. The delegation’s intention was to visit areas affected by the violence and advocate for peace.
Hooda expressed their desire to meet violence victims and promote a message of reconciliation. He emphasized the delegation’s plans to visit various locations, such as Nuh City, Nalhar Mandir, and markets, and engage with the local population. Hooda also commented on the significance of earlier police presence to prevent clashes.
In a similar incident on Sunday, the police prevented a four-member delegation from the Communist Party of India (CPI), including Binoy Viswam, a CPI Rajya Sabha MP, and Amarjeet Kaur, the CPI general secretary, from entering the area, citing similar reasons.
The violence in Haryana’s Nuh district originated on July 31 during an attempt to obstruct a procession organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad, resulting in six fatalities. The violence subsequently escalated to Gurugram and other parts of the state. The state government reported 156 arrests and 56 FIRs filed in connection with the violence and rioting in Nuh district.
Meanwhile, the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) of Haryana stated that normalcy is gradually being restored in the affected regions. People from various communities are actively contributing to peace restoration efforts by cooperating and dispelling rumors. Essential commodities are being purchased from different markets, and district administration and police officials are maintaining close communication with the public.
