Police arrest 2 drug peddlers in Kulgam

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Kulgam have arrested 2 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession. A police party headed by In-charge Police Post Mirbazar during patrolling at village Nipora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-5292 with 2 persons onboard. During the search, officers were able to recover 7.3 Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag. They have been identified as Shafat Ahmad Khanday, resident of Damjan and Jora Singh, resident of Dholan Ludhiana, Punjab. They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 202/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
