After completing a three-day visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for India on Monday from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
During his visit, PM Modi participated in the QUAD Leaders’ Summit, addressed the Indian diaspora at the ‘Modi and US’ event in New York, and delivered a speech at the ‘Summit of the Future’ during the United Nations General Assembly. He also held several important bilateral meetings, including discussions with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas.
On the first day of his visit, PM Modi attended the sixth QUAD Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. Hosted by US President Joe Biden, alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan, the leaders adopted the Quad Wilmington Declaration, describing the Quad as a “force for global good.”
In New York, PM Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday, thanking those who attended and sharing highlights from the event. “Thank you, New York! These are glimpses from the memorable community programme. Grateful to all those who joined,” he posted on social media platform X.
During his stay, PM Modi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, expressing concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and reaffirming India’s support for the Palestinian people. He also held meetings with Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Kuwait Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
On Monday, the Prime Minister addressed the 79th United Nations General Assembly’s ‘Summit of the Future,’ where he discussed various global issues, including the need for the safe and responsible use of technology. He emphasized that Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) should serve as a bridge, not a barrier. He also touched on emerging areas of conflict such as cyber, maritime, and space, calling for global action to meet global ambitions.
PM Modi stressed the importance of reforms in global institutions, describing them as essential for their continued relevance. He reiterated India’s commitment to humanity, encapsulated in the motto “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
In addition to these engagements, the Prime Minister met with Vietnamese President To Lam and interacted with top US tech leaders and CEOs in a roundtable discussion hosted by MIT’s School of Engineering.
