PM Modi after inaugurating new Parl building: Parliament Building Inauguration Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building this morning in a grand ceremony. As many as 21 Dharmapuram Adheenam seers from Chennai handed over the Sengol to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The Sengol was installed in the Lok Sabha chamber of the new Parliament building today. Sengol gets its name from the Tamil word ‘semmai’, meaning righteousness. The sceptre is a historical symbol of Independence as it signifies the transfer of power from the British to the Indians. Meanwhile, the ceremony is being boycotted by over 20 opposition parties, including the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), AAP, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Janata Dal (United). Security has been beefed up around the new Parliament building ahead of its inauguration.
