PM departed to attend the 15th BRICS Summit: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for South Africa to attend the 15th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Summit, which will take held in Johannesburg from August 22–24 under the presidency of South Africa.

In his departure statement before the summit, PM Modi said he was looking forward to meeting with some of the leaders in Johannesburg and talking with the many guest nations that had been invited to attend.

“BRICS has been pursuing a strong agenda of sectoral cooperation. We appreciate that the BRICS have developed into a forum for debating topics that are important to the whole Global South, such as the need for multilateral system reform and development imperatives. This summit will give the BRICS an opportunity to examine institutional growth and identify potential future areas of collaboration, according to a statement from PM Modi.

According to the statement, PM Modi will also take part in the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue events, which will be hosted as part of the BRICS Summit activities.

On the invitation of Greece’s Prime Minister, the Prime Minister of South Africa will travel to Athens on August 25. “This will be my first visit to this ancient land. I have the honour to be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Greece after 40 years,” said the prime minister in a statement.

PM Modi stated that his visit to Greece might usher in a new chapter in the nations’ complex relationship.
