The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on Monday, which will see newly-elected MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking the oath, followed by the election of Speaker and President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses. This will be the first Lok Sabha session after the general elections were held in April-June. In the 18th Lok Sabha, the NDA has a majority with 293 seats, with the BJP having 240 seats, short of the majority mark of 272. The Opposition INDIA bloc has 234 seats, with Congress accounting for 99. PM Modi and his Council of Ministers will take oath from 11 am onwards. After PM Modi takes oath, other Council of Ministers will take oath. Following this, the MPs from different states will take the oath in alphabetical order. This means that newly-elected parliamentarians from Assam will take oath and those from West Bengal will be the last to do so. The 18th Lok Sabha session will see oath-taking, Speaker’s election and President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both the Houses.
