IPL 2023 PBKS:  Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer backed the team’s bowlers to bounce back after their 56-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants on Friday in IPL 2023.

The LSG batters had a field day in Mohali as they scored the second-highest team total in the history of the IPL and posted 257 runs on the board. The likes of Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh had a day to forget as they conceded 144 runs between them in 11 overs.

However, Jaffer decided not to read too much into the bowling performance by PBKS and said it was a one-off thing. Speaking at the post-match press conference, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Jaffer said there aren’t any serious concerns with the bowling attack as they have defended scores before in the season.

The PBKS coach backed the bowlers to bounce back from the outing on Friday.

“Don’t think there are any serious concerns (about the bowling attack) because they had thrice defended scores in tough conditions,” opined Jaffer in the post-match press conference. “Be it against Mumbai or Rajasthan, even in the earlier Kolkata game. The bowling unit has always performed for us this season. Today was one of those days when everything clicked for the opposition and we were a bit clueless. Our bowlers will come back strong,” said Jaffer.

Shikhar Dhawan’s decision to bowl first on Friday now feels like the wrong call. However, Jaffer backed the PBKS skipper’s decision and also praised the way the LSG batters went about with their innings.

“It is a trend for IPL sides to opt for chasing after winning the toss. Dew was obviously a factor too. We had seen it during practice and that was a reason as well. But when the opposition gets to 257, it’s always tough to chase. They got a fast start in the powerplay and never slowed down at any stage. You have to give them credit.
