Jammu 20 March : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the formation of a panel to address the regularization of daily wage workers in the Union Territory. This committee, led by the chief secretary, will report its findings to the government within six months. Abdullah highlighted the government’s commitment to prompt recruitment for vacant posts in government services.
Responding to a question from BJP MLA Satish Sharma in the Assembly, Abdullah confirmed that the committee established during a previous session is underway. He stated that in the last two years, over 15,000 vacancies have been filled, with significant progress in both non-gazetted and gazetted posts referred to the respective recruitment boards.
To further improve hiring, the government has identified thousands of additional vacancies awaiting referral. Abdullah also mentioned the decision to eliminate interviews for posts up to Pay Level 5 and for certain Level 6 positions to streamline the recruitment process.
The chief minister has emphasized the importance of transparency and efficiency, with new regulations in place for fair hiring practices. Target-based recruitment timelines have been set, aiming to fill a total of 1,502 gazetted and 5,751 non-gazetted vacancies by the end of the year. Progress in the higher education department’s recruitment was also noted.
