Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Saturday said that a law to give legal guarantee for MSP can be a solution for farmer’s protest.

He said, “If it (Centre) brings out an ordinance, it can bring it overnight, if it wants to. If the government wants a resolution of the farmers’ protest, then it should bring an ordinance with immediate effect that it will enact a law on MSP, then discussions can proceed further.

He added, “On the issue of farm debt waiver, the government is saying that the loan amount has to be assessed. The government can collect data from banks in this regard, he said adding, “It is a question of will power.”

Protesting farmers at the Shambhu border near Ambala faced tear gas and rubber bullets from Haryana Police as talks with Union ministers remained inconclusive.

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, demanding MSP legal guarantee, continued for the fifth day. Farmer leaders accused the government of suppression, citing social media suspensions and injuries from police action. A 63-year-old protester died of a heart attack.

Talks addressed issues including internet suspension and force usage; farmers demanded the release of detained peers. Union ministers aimed for a resolution, while ‘Bharat Bandh’ demonstrations caused disruptions in Punjab and Haryana. Demands include MSP assurance, Swaminathan Commission recommendations, pension, debt waiver, electricity tariff freeze, and justice for the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence victims.

The agitation also seeks reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act and compensation for 2020-21 agitation victims’ families.
