Peshawar : A gunfight in Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, led to the death of a Pakistani Army captain and at least 10 terrorists from a banned group, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operation took place after intelligence reports indicated terrorist activity in the area.
Captain Hasnain Akhtar was recognized for his bravery during the firefight, where he led his troops. The ISPR noted that Hasnain was well-known for his courageous actions in prior missions. Weapons and ammunition were seized from the terrorists, who were responsible for attacks against law enforcement and innocent civilians.
A sanitization operation is ongoing, with security forces committed to eliminating terrorism in Pakistan. The country faces an increase in terrorist attacks, particularly targeting security forces, since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021. In January 2025, there was a 42 percent rise in attacks compared to December, resulting in 91 deaths, with a significant number of casualties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
