Over 700 Indian students in Canada fear deportation after being duped by agent in Jalandhar

Canada fear deportation: More than 700 Indian students are facing a threat of deportation on account of the ‘fake offer letters’ that were provided to them by their agent in Jalandhar, Punjab. The affected students have now reached out to higher authorities and have sought help.

The future of around 700 Indian students from Punjab, who arrived in Canada to pursue higher education, is on the verge of darkness. They are all facing deportation on account of the ‘fake offer letters’ that were provided to them by their agent in Jalandhar, Punjab.

The students, who were initially unaware of the fraudulent practices of the agent, on May 29 began a protest in the parking lot of a conference center, outside the head office of the Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) in Mississauga, Toronto, Canada.

Smaller protests have been launched in other parts of Ontario as well.

Canada fear deportation:  The affected students have also reached out to Sean Fraser, the Canadian immigration minister, who assured them that he would look into the matter, according to reports.

As many as 700 Indian students have received deportation letters from the CBSA recently after their offer letters for admission to educational institutions turned out to be fake.

Brijesh Mishra, an agent of the Overseas Education Consultant, which provides education and migration services to students in Jalandhar, is no longer available in the office for comments.

The Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) has also issued deportation notices to these students.

Now, the government of Canada is preparing to send all these students back to India and it has also been reported that some of the students have already been sent back to India.
