New violence in Manipur: One person was killed as fresh violence erupted in the Khoirentak village of Manipur on Tuesday. According to the details, miscreants attacked Kuki-Zo village at nearly 10 am.

Thirty-year-old Jangminlun Gangte was killed as village volunteers retaliated in response to the attack with heavy firing.

In the meantime, four militants from other groups were detained in separate operations and had their weapons and ammo taken from them, according to authorities.
The four militants were identified as one insurgent each of the NSCN(IM) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and two overground workers of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Lamyanba Khuman faction) from Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.

Security troops reportedly launched search operations in the five valley districts’ outlying and vulnerable locations.

Unidentified persons set three vacant homes on fire on August 27 (Sunday) in Imphal, the capital of Manipur.

Officials reported that firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the fire.

In a related event, at 2 am on the same day, unidentified persons stole three firearms from the security guards manning the apartment of former health and family welfare director K Rajo.

Since ethnic riots in Manipur began on May 3, more than 160 people have died and hundreds have been wounded.
