Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that power cuts will soon be a thing of the past once the state achieves 100% electricity metering.
Addressing concerns over the unscheduled power outages that have plagued the region, Omar said that unauthorized and excessive electricity consumption has been a key factor putting pressure on the power grid.
“Many individuals have agreements to use electricity for basic needs like lighting, but they end up consuming far more, similar to the usage of heavy appliances such as heaters,” he said, pointing out the strain on the system caused by such discrepancies.
He appealed to residents to work with the authorities to ensure fair and efficient use of electricity.
Omar also highlighted the additional challenges posed by the ongoing severe winter, including frozen water pipes, which have added to the daily struggles of the population. Despite these hardships, he remained hopeful, stating that snowfall could help alleviate some of the weather-related issues.
“We are making all possible efforts to address the situation, but some problems will persist until Jammu and Kashmir regains its statehood,” the Chief Minister concluded, recognizing the continuing difficulties of governance in the Union Territory.
