Jammu, Mar 17 : Jammu police apprehended a notorious criminal with a sharp-edged weapon during a routine naka (checkpoint) operation conducted by the police near Shamshan Ghat, Chandiyan, under the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Akhnoor.
As per official reports, a police team led by PSI Vijay Thakur was deployed for vehicle checking duty when they noticed a pedestrian approaching from TRC towards Akhnoor around 8:45 PM. Upon being signaled to stop for verification, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
The individual was identified as Rohit Kumar, son of Des Raj, a resident of Chak Bhagwana, Tehsil Jourian, Akhnoor. A search of his person led to the recovery of a tokka (sharp-edged weapon). When questioned about the possession of the weapon, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Subsequently, the weapon was seized, and a recovery memo was prepared on the spot. Based on the circumstances, a case under Section 4/25 of the Arms Act was registered against him at PS Akhnoor under FIR No. 50/2025. The case has been assigned to PSI Sonu Choudhary for further investigation.
The accused is a habitual offender with a criminal record, including involvement in a previous case registered under FIR No. 159/2023 at PS Akhnoor. He is also suspected to have links to bovine smuggling activities.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine if the accused has further criminal connections.
