Northern Railways Disrupts Train Services Due to Waterlogging; Cancellations and Diversions Implemented

The Northern Railways faced disruptions in train services on Friday due to waterlogging in several routes. As a result, the railway authorities took temporary measures such as cancellations, diversions, and short-terminations.

In an official press release, the Northern Railways announced the cancellation of several trains scheduled to depart on Saturday. These include the Ambala-Amb Andaura-Ambala Special JCO, Firozpur-Jalandhar Cantt-Firozpur Special JCO, and Jalandhar Cantt-Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar Cantt Special JCO.

Furthermore, diversions were implemented for trains such as the Jammu Tawi-Jodhpur Express, Dehradun-Amritsar Express, and Dehradun-Saharanpur Express.

Additional disruptions were expected, with cancellations, diversions, and short-terminations affecting trains scheduled for departure on July 16 and 17. Passengers were advised to check the official website of the Northern Railways for updated information on train services.

Shobhan Chaudhuri, the General Manager of the Northern Railway, explained the reason behind these measures. He stated that heavy rainfall occurred on July 8-9, causing the tracks to get submerged as water flowed down from the mountains to the plains. To ensure safety, train services had to be suspended as a precautionary measure.

The relentless heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in the northern parts of the country throughout the month. Tragically, the rain-related incidents have claimed the lives of over 145 people. In response, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Uttarakhand on Friday, while an orange alert was issued for the period between July 15 and 17.
