Despite equipped with all kinds of facilities, Primary Health Centre Sonamarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district faces an acute shortage of staff.
The locals and shopkeepers while expressing resentment against the authorities stated that this vital PHC had never been a priority for the Directorate of Health Service Kashmir.
Local and non-local tourists who visit the Sonamarg tourist resort visit this PHC in case of any emergency. This PHC also caters the road accident victims. “There are all kinds of facilities available at the Centre but there is nobody who could operate the machines. There are no technicians, no lady doctor and no pharmacist,” said a couple of shopkeepers.
Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, Dr Afroza admitted there is a shortage of staff at Primary Health Centre Sonamarg. While talking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust Dr Afroza said that she has already taken up the matter with the Director Health Services Kashmir and once she will get the manpower, she will dispatch them to PHC Sonamarg.
“There are only 4 X-Ray technicians available in the district and I can’t afford to send one of them there at this moment. There should be staff and I too am concerned about it,” she added.
Ironically, proper staff was available at the PHC Sonamarag during the winters. As the spring approached, all staff was called back, much surprise to the people.
