Amid reports of differences between the National Conference (NC) and Congress over the recent resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, senior Congress leader G A Mir on Tuesday reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting the coalition government in the Union Territory.
Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of a review meeting in south Kashmir, Mir, according to the news, clarified that Congress remained a key partner in the coalition. He described the recent resolution passed in the Assembly as the “voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“We fought the elections in coalition and continue to stand united with our partners. There is no reason for us to withdraw our support. Our focus remains on delivering governance and addressing the needs of the people,” Mir said.
On the issue of cabinet expansion, the Member of Legislative Assembly said it was within the Chief Minister’s prerogative to make such decisions when necessary. “The Chief Minister has the right to expand the cabinet as per the requirements, and discussions will be held with concerned stakeholders regarding roles and responsibilities within the coalition,” he said.
Mir said the Congress party was committed to working towards the welfare of the people, particularly in addressing critical issues such as the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He reiterated the party’s firm stance on the matter, calling for the expeditious restoration of statehood with constitutional guarantees.
The senior Congress leader also highlighted the party’s collaborative approach in the Assembly and expressed readiness to work with all stakeholders for the development and progress of the region.
He urged the central government to prioritise the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, terming it a crucial step for ensuring stability and progress in the region
