A day after a woman was killed in Mumbai when a BMW car rammed her in Mumbai allegedly by Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah’s son Mihir Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said there would be zero tolerance against hit-and-run offenders. He also said that anyone being rich or politicians and their children, irrespective of their party affiliation, will not have immunity as long as he was the Chief Minister.
Shinde’s reaction also came after an on-duty Pune Police constable died in a hit-and-run incident after a speeding car rammed his scooter in the early hours of Monday. The incident came close to the heels of a similar incident in Pune, where a 17-year-old boy rammed his Porsche into two people on a scooter, killing them on the spot, which sparked outrage.
In a tweet, Shinde said he was “deeply alarmed” by the rise in hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra and said the state government were implementing stricter laws and harsher penalties for hit-and-run offenders
