Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari reached Sonamarg on Monday along with J&K  Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and members of Parliament to visit the point of the Zojila lair and to inaugurate the   Z- Morh lair on Srinagar- Leh trace.

Gadkari is listed to throw open the Z- Morh lair that will make Sonamarg sightseer resort an all rainfall destination.

The Zojila Lair, which will connect the Ladakh region with the rest of the country, will remain open time round and is likely to be completed by 2026.

Gadkari will also address the MPs, who are part of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of ministry of roads and roadways (MORTH).

The Union Minister will review progress of work on the public roadways and roads in the Union Territory of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir at a high position meeting Monday.

He’ll brief the Parliamentary Consultative Committee members on the number of workshop of MORTH, including National Highways and major roads going on in the Union homes of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

On April 11, Gadkari accompanied by the Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO),Dr. Jitendra Singh will visit Banihal-Ramban stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and check progress of the work.

They will also check the point for construction of Intermodal Station (IMS) at holy city of Katra in Reasi quarter and Katra- Delhi Expressway in the autumn.

Gadkari will return to New Delhi in the autumn of April 11.

Zojila Tunnel will boost Tourism 2-3 times in the UTs of J&K and Ladakh

Following the examination of the ongoing work on the Zojila Tunnel, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that tourism will increase by 2-3 times with the construction of the Tunnel.

“With the construction of this Tunnel, tourism will increase by 2- 3 times and employment openings will also grow in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Gadkari.

“We’ll achieve connectivity between Kashmir to Kanniyakumari in the true sense,” he added.

Gadkari in a tweet said that as numerous as 19 coverts are being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir at a cost of Rs 25 thousand crore.

 

“19 coverts are being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir at a cost of Rs 25 thousand crore. Under this, construction work of 13.14 km long Tunnel and approach road is in progress at Zojila at a cost of Rs 6800 crore.

It’s a 7.57 cadence high horseshoe- shaped single tube, 2-lane Tunnel, which will pass under the Zojila Pass in the Himalayas between Ganderbal in Kashmir and Drass city in Kargil quarter of Ladakh. The design includes a Smart Tunnel (SCADA) system, constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method.

It’s equipped with installations like CCTV, radio control, continued power force, ventilation. The Government of India has also saved Rs 5000 crore by the use of ultramodern technology in this design,” twittered Gadkari in Hindi.

The transport minister further said that with the construction of this Tunnel, there will be each- rainfall connectivity for Ladakh.

“With the construction of this Tunnel, there will be each- rainfall connectivity for Ladakh. Now the average trip time to cross the Zojila Pass occasionally takes three hours, after the completion of this lair the trip time will come down to 20.0 twinkles. The reduction in trip time will eventually affect in energy savings, he tweets.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the end is for the each-round development of J&K through better road connectivity.

“The terrain near Zojila Pass is extremely negative, with numerous fatal accidents taking place then every time. After the completion of the Zojila Lair, the chances of accidents will be zero. This lair will give time- round connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, which will be extremely important for the development of Ladakh, the creation of tourism, free movement of original goods and the movement of Indian fortified forces in case of exigency. We’re committed to the each-round development of Jammu and Kashmir through better road connectivity under the leadership of reputed Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he tweets.

Before on April 9, Hyderabad- grounded Megha Engineering and structure Limited (MEIL), which is executing Zojila Tunnel, is going on at a rapid-fire pace and is likely to be completed by December 2026.
