Princess Diana’s recently uncovered audio recordings shed light on King Charles’s preference for a daughter as their second child. King Charles expressed disappointment over the birth of Prince Harry, as he had hoped for a daughter.
As reported by CNN, an upcoming documentary titled “Diana: The Rest of Her Story,” slated for release next year, has unveiled a collection of audio tapes recorded by Diana during the 1990s. These tapes are being heard for the first time in preparation for the documentary, as Diana had arranged for their delivery to her biographer, Andrew Morton.
According to the report, ABC’s Good Morning America gained access to the tapes, in which Diana discusses King Charles’s disappointment and his distant relationship with her stepmother, Raine Spencer.
Diana recounted a moment at Harry’s Christening, where King Charles approached her and remarked, “You know we were so disappointed; we thought it would be a girl.” Diana further mentioned that her mother snapped at him, saying, “You should realize how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.”
Within Diana’s recorded conversations, she also revealed her emotional outburst directed at her stepmother, expressing her intense dislike for her. Diana recalled saying, “I hate you [referring to her stepmother, Raine Spencer] so much. If you only knew how much we all hated you for what you’ve done. You’ve ruined the house. You’ve spent Daddy’s money.” Diana held nothing back in expressing her feelings.
Diana’s biographer, Morton, shared insights with ABC’s Good Morning America, stating that the late Princess provided firsthand perspectives on the British Royal Family. Morton added that Diana never anticipated that Camilla would ascend to the throne, offering a unique perspective on the unfolding history.
