Narco module busted, three smugglers arrested: Baramulla

Police on Thursday (May 9) said it busted narco module in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla, and arrested three narco smugglers from whose possession contraband substance worth rupees 50 crore and cash has been recovered.

A police spokesperson in a statement issued said, on 08.05.2024 Police Station Uri received specific information that one Mehmood Ahmad Najar S/O Mohd Hassan Najar R/O Churunda and Sajad Ahmad Malik S/O Mohd Amin Malik R/O Dhanisyedan are involved in narcotics smuggling.

He said on receiving this information a case FIR No. 35/2024 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS ACT was registered and investigation was set into motion. During investigation both suspects were detained and during questioning they disclosed that they have concealed contraband substance and cash at Churanda.

On receiving this information, Police Party accompanied by Magistrate and with assistance of Army, searched the spot and recovered the contraband substance and cash on disclosure of the accuseds. Further they also revealed that, one more person namely Fayaz Ahmad Hajam S/o Mohd Rafi Hajam R/o Danisyedan has managed to smuggle contraband from Pakistan, accordingly he was detained during questioning, he also disclosed that he has concealed some contraband, which was subsequently recovered by Police and Magistrate. Further, on disclosure of Fayaz, some cash was also recovered from his house. So far Police has recovered contraband weighing 7.800 Kgms (value Rs. 50 Crore approximately) and cash worth Rs. 12,63,500/- from this module which has links with Pakistan based handlers, the police spokesperson said.

He added further investigations into the matter is underway.
