For the third cycle of assessment and re-accreditation of Govt. Degree College Udhampur, the Peer Team from National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC), visited the College for the Qualitative Assessment.
The NAAC peer team comprised of Prof. (Dr) Abdul Khader MK, Former Vice Chancellor, Kannur and Calicut (Additional Charge) Universities Kerala, as the Chairperson, Member Coordinator Dr. Buddhin Gogoi, Director International Center for Academic and Cultural Exchange, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya and the Member Peer Team, Dr. Kiran Reddy, CEO, and Founder AIMS Institutes, Principal AIMS, Bangalore.
The two-day visit to GDC Udhampur began with the receiving of the Peer Team Members by the Principal, IQAC Coordinator, and other staff in the college. They were presented the Guard of Honour and a gratifying salute by the 2nd J&K Boys and Girls Battalions of the College followed by a Warm Welcome by the train of NSS volunteers to the Office of the Principal.
After the formal felicitation of the guests in the Principal Chamber, A detailed Criterion- wise illustrative powerpoint presentation was made by the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta in front of NAAC Peer Team followed by a question-answer session regarding observations noted by the NAAC peer team. The Peer-team highly appreciated the presentation of the Principal.
Post this, a detailed powerpoint presentation on quality initiatives of IQAC in the college was made by the Coordinator, Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, in which he apprised the Peer team about all the aspects covered in the seven criteria as per the SSR and also showed the peer team the action taken on the Previous NAAC Cycle’s recommendations. In the presentation, he highlighted all major initiatives taken by the IQAC and the progress thereof made by the college.
The members visited almost all the departments, staff room, PG departments of English, Hindi, and Chemistry, and randomly interacted with students present in the departments, classes, canteen facilities, botanical garden, college hostel, playgrounds, Girls common room, etc. They appreciated the facilities provided to the students and also suggested the upgradation of the same to cater to the future demands with the growing number of courses and students thereof.
The NAAC peer team was quite appreciative of the college for having been able to build state-of-the-art infrastructure in all its departments and facilities (viz. ICT, Sports, Science Laboratories, Innovation Incubation Hub, Library, Hub-Centre for Agriculture technology, Evaluation Centre, IT and Electronics HUb, Language Lab, Virtual Class Room, Advanced ICT, and Computer Labs, Innovative E-Content Centre, PG Departments, etc.). They were very much impressed by the facilities like the Browsing Centre, Automated and Digital Library, which was observed by the Peer-team during their visit to these facilities.
The Peer Team recognized and liked the Social Initiatives of the Students of the college Viz. YUVA Soch Yuva Bharat and their mentorship by the College.
The Peer team members had a detailed interaction with the members of the governing bodies comprising the representative from Jammu University, Dr. Pankaj Shrivastava, Professor Department of Geology, Jammu university; Additional Secretary J&K Higher Education, Sh. Susheel Khajuria.
Post the lunch session, the NAAC Peer Team members had a series of interactions with other stakeholders (The Alumni, The Student Council, The Parent Body, and The Teaching and non-teaching faculty) of the college. The Peer team remarked that the best feature of the institution was the coordination and its democratic atmosphere.
The first day culminated with the Cultural Evening for the Peer Team, by attending which the chairperson and the members were mesmerized and highly appreciated all the performances of the students, be it Kudd, Dogri Geetru, Sufi-Qawwali, Creative Dance, Dogri Kaarak, Dogri, Punjabi, Malayali, Classical and Hindustani Dances portraying the diversity and cultural harmony of the region and the country. In his address to the students, the Chairperson appreciated the performances and motivated the students to take part in all such activities for holistic development and harmonious evolution.
On the second Day, The Peer Team visited the residual facilities and the departments, Office, and MI Room, after which they had a threadbare interaction with the coordinator and members of the IQAC, wherein they verified and scrutinized the documents for all kinds of records. They expressed overall satisfaction with the working of the IQAC and congratulated the Coordinator Dr. Romesh Sharma and all the members for the meticulous filing of the record of the different criteria.
After that, the NAAC Peer also witnessed the best practices deployed by the institution and was appreciative of the efforts made by the institution in enriching the outlook of its students and building skills and professional understanding among them.
The exit meeting of the visit was held in the college conference hall in which Dr. Manisha Kohli formally welcomed the Members, it was followed by presidential remarks of the Principal. The Chairperson of the NAAC Peer team, Abdul Khader MK shared the report of the visit with the Principal of the college and appreciated his leadership qualities to take the college in the right direction.
The other members of the NAAC Peer team shared their observations, recommendations, and suggestions which would help the institution excel and reach new heights of excellence in the coming years.
