The locals of Srinagar’s Magarmal Bagh, Aloochi Bagh and Haft Chinar areas Thursday raised the issues related to poor drainage, shortage of drinking water supply and dilapidated roads during ‘My Town My Pride’ program where DDC member Er Aijaz Hussain and Corporator Haneef Bhat gave them a patient hearing amid assurances of resolving their issues on fast track basis.
Er Aijaz and Corporator Haneef Bhat visited Magarmal Bagh, Aloochi Bagh and Haft Chinar areas of Srinagar where locals including elderly, youth and women apprised them about the various issues related to poor drainage, water and roads. The locals told Er Aijaz and Haneef Bhat that despite being a few hundred meters away from the city centre Lal Chowk, these areas stand neglected due to poor drainage as whenever it rains, roads get inundated as drainage system gets chocked within no time. The locals alleged that at some places, drainage points have been encroached by shopkeepers and others due to which locals are suffering during rain and snow.
The locals of these areas also complained of poor drinking water facilities stating that they get water on time to time basis despite being in the heart of the city. Many locals also complained of poor quality of water. The condition of roads was taken up by the locals of Magarmal Bhag, Haft Chinar and Aloochi Bagh who alleged that there are potholes everywhere and its very hard to drive or walk in the interior parts of these areas. While giving a patient hearing to the locals in all these areas, Er Aijaz and Haneef Bhat assured them that their issues will be taken up with the concerned quarters and they will pursue it vigorously for immediate redressal. They assured them wherever drains have been encroached, that will be removed by the law enforcing agencies very shortly.
The locals of these areas hailed the two visiting representatives for reaching out to them.
