The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid glowing tributes to its founder and former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Syeed on his 07th Death Anniversary.
In a statement issued here, the party described its late founder as a far sighted political leader and an astute administrator who remained focused on evolving and executing a practical roadmap for sustainable peace with dignity in J&K as well as securing development for its people.
“J&K had become a battleground where graveyards at every nook and corner were filled. Thousands of children were orphaned and women had become widows. Keeping this situation into account, Mufti sahab took visionary steps and brought some respite to people of both sides of LoC through his coherent toil”, Mehbooba said.
Calling for resumption of the now reversed peace process , Mehbooba underlined that Mufti sahab’s vision of a roadmap for permanent peace was founded upon the idea of respect to and engaging with varied shades of opinion.
” As we pass through difficult times, this approach of Mufti sahab remains the only way forward to achieve permanent peace in the region by getting all stakeholders together to achieve this otherwise elusive goal and get people rid of miseries,” she added.
She emphasized that Mufti sahab had set the bar high even in the matters of development ; infrastructural or economic and that his tenure in the office was characterized by highest standards of integrity and propriety.
“Setting up of universities , colleges, institutes of excellence, strengthening of institutions of governance, augmenting the infrastructure in power, road and healthcare sector, stimulus to industrial sector , entrepreneurship , setting up of separate ministry for uplifting tribal community and securing their rights and welfare are testament to unprecedented push to developmental and people’s welfare ideas by Mufti sahab, ” She added.
Urging them to contribute towards realising Mufti Sahab’s dream of a peaceful and prosperous J&K, Mehbooba asked the party cadre to re-dedicate themselves to selflessly work for people’s welfare. “This would be the greatest tribute to Mufti sahab,” she said.
