Monsoon Session Begins: Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Adjourned Following Obituary References

On Thursday morning, during the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2 pm and 12 noon, respectively, following obituary references.

In Lok Sabha, AAP leader Sushil Kumar Rinku, elected from Jalandhar in Punjab, was sworn in as a member of the House in Punjabi.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, read out the obituary references for two sitting members and 11 former members who had passed away during the inter-session period. The House observed a moment of silence in their memory.

In Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Singh Dhankar read out the obituary reference for sitting member Hardwar Dubey, and the House also observed silence for other departed leaders and former members.

Opposition members had submitted adjournment motion notices in both Houses of Parliament to discuss various demands, including the situation in Manipur.

Before the session commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his confidence that MPs would engage in discussions about public welfare, emphasizing that sharper discussions lead to better outcomes for the public good.

He also highlighted the significance of various bills, including the personal data protection bill. Additionally, PM Modi addressed the ethnic violence in Manipur, expressing his pain and asserting that those responsible would not be spared.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had mentioned that 31 bills were on the government’s agenda for discussion during the session.
