Srinagar, Apr 25 : Authorities have conveyed that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Kashmir’s chief cleric and chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, will be allowed to offer Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid after four consecutive weeks of restrictions.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed the decision.

The past month saw the Mirwaiz confined to his residence on successive Fridays, leading to public outcry and appeals from religious and civil society groups. His absence from Jamia Masjid had left many faithful disheartened, as the grand mosque is considered a center of spiritual and social significance in Kashmir.
