Meta has officially launched its artificial intelligence assistant on WhatsApp, allowing users to integrate AI directly into their messaging experience. Currently, the new Meta AI is only available in English and is limited to a select few countries, including India. It is offering users the ability to have conversations, find information, and get recommendations directly within WhatsApp.

Just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot, the Meta AI feature on WhatsApp offers a variety of AI features, including answering questions on various topics, generating text and images, translating languages, and suggesting ideas. Users can interact with Meta AI in group chats to seek advice, request news updates, and even generate images using prompts in a dedicated chatbox, all within personal or group conversations.

However, it’s important to note that while regular WhatsApp conversations use end-to-end encryption, anything you ask Meta AI within a conversation is not encrypted. According to Meta, this is because they use user data and prompts to train their AI. “Meta AI can only read and reply to questions that mention @Meta AI, not any others. As always, your personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning not even WhatsApp or Meta can see or listen to them.,” says Meta.
