Inter Miami secured a decisive 3-1 victory to advance to the knockout round of the competition. At the DRV PNK Stadium in Miami, Messi took just seven minutes to open the scoring after a 95-minute delay brought on by rain.
Rob Taylor of Inter Miami produced a through pass that put Messi in the penalty area. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner made no mistakes when he fired a left-footed strike into the goal. Inter Miami absolutely controlled the game and easily advanced to the next round with 64% of the ball possession. They took 12 total shots, one more than their rivals Orlando City.
When Lionel Messi scored the game’s second goal in the 72nd minute, the hosts put the game out of their reach. The World Cup winner scored with a right-footed strike from the middle of the area to give Inter Miami the victory.
Lionel Messi has played three times for Inter Miami and scored five goals so far. Messi played his first whole 90-minute game in an Inter Miami uniform against Orlando City.
