Srinagar, 08 February (Gulistan News TV): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, along with her daughter Iltija Mufti, have alleged they were placed under house arrest.

Iltija Mufti took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), claiming that authorities locked their residence gates, barring them from stepping out. She wrote, “Our gates have been locked up because my mother was meant to visit Sopore, where Waseem Mir was shot dead by the army. I intended to visit Kathua today to meet Makhan Din’s family but am not being allowed to even move out.”

She further wrote, “Nothing has changed in Kashmir even after elections. Now even comforting the families of victims is being criminalized,” tagging Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Pertinently, two tragic incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have drawn widespread attention. In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a civilian truck driver from Sopore, Waseem Mir, was shot dead by the Army on Thursday after he allegedly sped away from a checkpoint. Meanwhile, in Jammu’s Kathua district, another civilian, Makhan Din, was found dead under suspicious circumstances, allegedly after facing torture in police custody.

No official response from the authorities regarding the alleged house arrest has been issued so far.
