JANUARY 17 ( Gulistan News Tv ) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the government for removing key officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), calling it a move to shield the corrupt and silence whistleblowers. In a post on X, (formerly twitter) Mehbooba Mufti wrote, “The removal of Abdul Wahid & his colleagues from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) highlights the risks faced by officials who challenge corruption. It exposes the nexus between the corrupt and the most powerful. This action of punishing the whistleblower has revealed the government’s true intentions behind using various agencies, including ACB, to raid properties of Kashmiris under the guise of corruption investigations. Raises questions about the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.”
The development comes amidst an ongoing ACB investigation into corruption allegations related to the Srinagar Smart City Limited project. The probe, led by SSP Waheed Ahmad Shah, who has now been transferred has reportedly revealed major irregularities.Among those under investigation are the Executive Engineer and Chief Financial Officer of Srinagar Smart City Limited.According to a government order issued on Thursday, three JKPS officers, Abdul Wahid Shah, Mohammad Rashid and Rakesh Kumar have been repatriated from the ACB to the Home Department.Simultaneously, Deep Singh Jamwal, Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Mamta Sharma have been posted to the ACB from the Home Department. The timing of these transfers, particularly during a high-profile corruption probe, has sparked criticism.
