The Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Kulgam today organized a Mega Kisan Mela at KVK Pombay, aimed at creating widespread awareness about various schemes and advancements in the agriculture and allied sectors.
The event was graced by the Chairman, District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, M Afzal Parray; Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam-AC, M.Y.Tarigami and Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan.
Joint Director Agriculture, Chief Agriculture Office and several officials from agricultural and allied departments besides progressive farmers participated in the programme.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam emphasized the importance of raising awareness among farmers about the various schemes designed to support them.
He urged the Department of Agriculture to focus on outreach efforts that bring modern farming tools, technology, and practices directly to farmers, enhancing their productivity and livelihoods.
The programme served as a platform to showcase diverse activities and services provided by the agriculture sector, with different stalls set up to demonstrate key areas such as vegetable farming, mushroom cultivation, apiculture, horticulture, sheep rearing and animal husbandry.
Over 350 farmers participated in the event, gaining insights into modern farming practices and opportunities available under various government schemes.
