In a sharp statement issued during a special media briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticized Pakistan for its “irresponsible behaviour” during the recent escalation along the western front, underlining the contrast in the way both nations handled airspace safety amid the unfolding military developments.
As Pakistan launched an unprovoked and failed drone and missile attack targeting Indian military installations, it surprisingly kept its civil airspace open, allowing commercial airline traffic to continue between Karachi and Lahore. This decision, officials said, put civilian lives at risk despite heightened military activity.
India, in contrast, responded with a more measured approach. The Indian government temporarily closed its airspace to civilian flights as a precautionary step, ensuring no civilian traffic overlapped with military operations. The Indian Air Force reportedly exercised restraint throughout the operation to guarantee the safety of international civil carriers flying in Indian skies.
The MEA reiterated that India’s response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam—code-named Operation Sindoor—was precise, defensive in nature, and guided by a commitment to minimize collateral damage, both civilian and military.
Officials emphasized that India’s actions targeted terrorist infrastructure and were executed with full regard to international protocols and air safety standards, unlike Pakistan’s “reckless and provocative” measures.
