McDonald’s fined: A McDonald’s outlet in London was fined ã500,000 (approx. Rs 5.14 crore) after a customer found mouse droppings in their cheeseburger and uncovered an infestation at the restaurant.
The drive-thru customer complained after tucking into their burger and saw what appeared to be a rodent’s excrement on the inside of the food wrapper.
Following this, the customer registered a complaint, after which health officials started an investigation. The authorities visited the outlet and observed that it was being operated under filthy conditions. Decomposing remains of a mouse and droppings were found throughout the outlet, including in areas where the food is kept and prepared. The staff room and storage area too were found to be unhygienic during the inspection, reported the Daily Mail.
McDonald’s fined: The fast-food giant was hauled into court this week by Waltham Forest Council after pleading guilty to three charges relating to hygiene breaches and ordered to pay ã500,000 in fines and costs.
“Customers should be made to feel confident that their food has been cooked and prepared in a clean and safe environment. We are grateful for the quick thinking of the customer in this case for reporting the matter to the council for investigation,” Councillor Khevyn Limbajee, Waltham Forest Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, was quoted by The Mirror as saying.
