02 Feb (GulistanNewsTv):A devastating fire broke out at approximately 12:30 AM on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in the Rakhi Asham Malapora area of Nowgam Sonawari, in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The fire engulfed the joinery mill owned by Mohd Ashraf Dogra son of Mohd Akbar Dogra, a resident of Nowgam completely destroying the structure and its contents. The joinery mill contained timber worth lakhs of rupees, along with finished wooden doorframes, all of which were consumed by the flames. All machinery within the workshop was also destroyed, resulting in substantial financial losses for the owner.

Fire tenders from the Sumbal Fire Station, along with local residents, responded to the scene and worked to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties. Despite their efforts, the timber workshop was completely destroyed.The cause of the fire remains unknown.Residents of Nowgam Sonawari have reiterated their plea to the government for the establishment of a Fire and Emergency Services unit in their area. They emphasized the need for a local facility, highlighting the delayed response from the Sumbal Fire Station, which often takes hours to reach Nowgam. Locals argue that this delay often results in irreparable damage.“We humbly appeal to the District Administration of Bandipora to establish a Fire and Emergency Services unit in Nowgam, Sonawari, to prevent such devastating losses in the future,” a local resident stated.Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation.
