Man injured in accidental firing incident in Jammu

An Assistant professor of University of Jammu has sustained injuries in an incident involving accidental discharge of a firearm in a Matador in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu city on Wednesday.

As per report, the incident occurred today morning when a Security guard alighting from the Matador bearing registration number ‘JK02BG1184’ plying from Trikuta Nagar to Panjtirthi accidentally pressed the trigger of his rifle, resulting in the firing of a bullet, causing injury to the arm of the Jammu university’s professor.

The security guard is identified as Surjeet Singh (45), son of Prem Singh resident of Rajouri’s Kalakote area, was deployed at Jagdambey Jewellers in Gandhi Nagar.

The victim is identified as Dr. S. Bharathiraja, an Assistant professor in the Biotechnology department of Jammu university. He is around 50-years-old from Karnataka state.

A team of Forensic department is also called on the spot and the weapon has been seized by the cops.

The victim has been shifted to GMC Bakshi Nagar of Jammu city by the cops, while the security guard has been detained by the Jammu police.

A probe in  the matter is in progress and the matador is also confiscated by the cops and a case has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station.
